What is the step-by-step process for a smile design?
The essential requirements and phases include:
1. Health Assessment and Diagnosis (Initial Phase)
• Prior oral health: The mouth must be free of cavities, gingivitis, or periodontitis.
• X-rays and photographs: Panoramic and periapical X-rays, as well as
intraoral and extraoral photos,are taken to analyze bone structure, tooth roots, and facial proportions.
• Occlusal analysis (bite): Evaluate how the teeth fit together to prevent the design from breaking or causing joint pain (TMJ).
2. Digital Planning and Mock-up (Design)
• 3D scan or digital design: Digital impressionsare taken to simulate the ideal result using software.
• In-mouth trial (Mock-up): A temporary modelis created on your teeth so you can see and try out how your smile will look before starting any permanent procedure.
3. Complementary Preliminary Treatments (As Needed) Not all patients
have the same needs; a comprehensive design may require:
• Dental cleaning or scaling: A deep pre-treatmentcleaning . • Preliminary orthodontics: If the teeth are severely misaligned, they must be straightened first to prevent excessive wear. • Gingivoplasty (gum reshaping): Aestheticrecontouring of the gums if there is a gummy smile or asymmetry. • Teeth whitening: To even out the base shade of the teeth. 4. Treatment Procedure
